Refund of faulty tv

I bought a toshiba tv on 21st march. It was ok at first then became faulty, wouldn't switch on straight away with the remote or controls on the set. They took it away to repair and it came back on Wednesday. It was ok Wednesday night, didn't use it yesterday and now I've just tried to turn it on and it won't do anything at all. Is worse than it was before.

If I was to tell Richer Sounds I want my money back are they obliged to refund me? I'm very peed off. Just want to know my rights before I speak to them.

I should think that not fit for purpose fits the bill in this case, Evian.

I hope so, I don't expect a new tv to have to be repaired twice in 6 months. How am I gona watch eastenders tonight!
I'll tell ya about it tomorrow lol.
It`ll be on the direct.gov website but I think they are obliged to offer a repair or refund. If the repair doesn`t do the trick they should offer a refund. Richer Sounds are quite good about things like that though.

If they offer you a replacement, will you be happy?

Think about it before you are put on the spot.

Personally I would accept a replacement, particularly if it has been updated since purchase.
I'd prefer a refund. You can prob. get a larger screen for the same money now: just think, Kat Moon's face in full 50" glory.
Take it back Evian, its not fit for the purpose of its intention.

It'd take a replacement but not of the same model. A different brand. My dad has a less than perfect Toshiba too.

Kat in 50 inches? Glad I went for the house with a smaller living room now, 50inch won't fit :)
If I had that problem Evian & especially after a 2nd fault, it would go back & a replacement Non Toshiba model chosen. If they try it "On" contact Trading Standards.

Ill phone them tomorrow and see if I can get them to replace it with a different make.
i had a very bad experience with richer sounds regarding my sons tv. after 8 months of use, he switched it on one day and it went bang and wouldn't work. we took it to the shop and they sent it off to repair and it came back 2 weeks later and they hadn't fixed it because they said we had damaged it ourselves. i tried calling the shop i bought it from, head office and their repairs team, but to no avail. it was only when i took the tv and stood outside the shop on a saturday afternoon and told all the customers going in and out about their 'service' for 20 minutes that they finally gave in and refunded my son.

i guess the moral of this story is that you have sent it back for repair and it has not been sorted and you are within your statutory rights to have a refund (see:

for the specific bits of consumer law you are protected by. be firm, try calling head office if you don't get satisfaction at the shop itself; and failing that, make a complete pain in the @se of yourself if you have to. i have done the standing outside shops with faulty goods a few times and it always works in the end. good luck to you and go after your refund! x

Wow Lcg, good for you! I hope it doesn't come to that as I'm not sure I've got the nerve, or the time. I want to get a swim in today :)

I got it to turn on eventually last night but only by unplugging it all and starting from scratch. I've tried to turn it on again this morning and nada. The nearest shop is about 30 mins away so ill call their helpdesk when they open at ten to talk about what replacement they will offer me. Wish me luck.

Well in now sitting in front on my new Samsung tv.

I took a small amount of fighting but once I said the words 'consumer rights' they told me to go to the store and they change it. Thanks all!
