Just for interest, is there a beauty product (men and women here) that you buy that's a real bargain, but works better for you than all the expensive named brands?

For me, it’s Asda’s pro-vitamin conditioner.  About 1.20 for a huge bottle and there isn’t another conditioner that makes my hair as soft.

Boots own styling mousse, tried loads of others but none of them help my hair keep it's style like the Boots one.

soft baby sponge (any brand) - the best i think, for exfoliation

Asda hand and nail cream. You get a huge bottle for 98p and it is brilliant.Their pro-vit shampoo and conditioner is great too.Just as good as Pantene and half the price. They also do an anti - dandruff shampoo which I get for my son.Just as good as Head and Shoulders and again much cheaper. As you can see I am an Asda fan!! I think you pay for the name with a lot of stuff.
Tesco Make-Up concealer.  Mine ran out and being unable to get to a Tesco I replaced it with one costing three times as much - big mistake.  It's nowhere near as good for coverage and staying power.  Next time I'll make the journey to Tesco specifically and stock up!
well i just got 45 of beauty stuff in boots for less than 15 with vouchers from the mirror paper! bargain
ShaneyStar is so right bout paying for brand names. I too am an Asda fan for most things, not jus toiletries. As a bloke, I am probably not as fussy as the wife, but she has very fine, limp hair and swears by Wilko's shampoo & conditioners. I will only use Wilko's sensetive shaving gel.
Boots eyemakeup remover - it costs 1.20 and theres nothing better!
God where have I been!!! muggins here is still paying top dollar for everything!

Any brand baby oil for removing eye make up.  It doesn't sting and shifts welded on waterproof mascara.  Carefull not to get it in your eyes though, you end up with blurry vision for a bit!!

Thanks so much for all your tips, any more?  I'm going to try all your suggestions.  Guccigal, think of all the money you’ll save to spend on clothes!

I forgot to add – Aqueous cream.  You can get a huge tub from Superdrug for about 1.50 at the mo.  You can use it as a soap, a cleanser, a moisturiser,  an aftersun and a body lotion.

first of all - forget waterproof eye make up remover - vaseline does the job equally as well and a pot costs a pound and last forever!

My bargain find is tescos own brand fake tan - doesn't streak half as much as others I've paid out for, it last a good couple of showers, and the colours alriht too - its less than 4 a bottle!

I work for Asda so its really nice to see all your positive comments!!!!

Anyway I like Asda Cleansing Facial Wipes (cleanse, tone and moisturise in one go) - 88p a packet (light brown and white packet). Gawd I work at the place and can't even remember their proper name!!
Witch stick for combating the odd spot i get or as an alternative tea tree oil which you can also add to shampoo, baths etc when on your hols so the mozzies are not as attracted to you as they don't like the stuff. It's also the most natural anti-bacterial and anti-septic you can get so great for scratches and bites too. Costs no more than a fiver for a decent one from your local health shop. Boots ones are usually mixed with something else like almond oil so they are not 100% pure. Best thing since sliced bread i say lol! Also for oilier skin types put a drop into your moisturiser before applying or in your shampoo for greasy hair really good cleanser.

Kerastace Hair conditioner.

Also, baby oil of any brand (eye makeup remover), vaseline (lip balm), and lacto calamine lotion (sunburn/itchy skin).

These are all really interesting suggestions but I must add - I tried baby oil as eye make up remover and it was way too greasy for my skin, brought my undereye area out in 'milia' (little white bumps).  The undereye area is so delicate it's worth taking some care - a lot of eye creams have done this to me too.  I now pay a lot for eye make up remover and other products for the eye area and I feel it's worth it.  Also, aqueous cream as cleanser won't work if your skin is on the greasy side.  Mine is combination and it's too thick for me.  And tea tree oil can really dry out your skin if you're not careful - I avoid it unless I have an absolute humdinger of a spot cos I used it on a breakout once and got months of flaky, dry skin for my troubles.

Sorry to pour cold water (which makes a great toner by the way :-)) on some people's tips - I'm not saying they're rubbish or anything - but I have a beauty product obsession so I spend far too much time thinking about this stuff!

Boots cold cream is a great cleanser. And cheap.I smear it liberally over my face and then clean it off with a face flannel wrung out in hot water.Splash face afterwards with lots of cold water.
Very refreshing.
my bargain buy was a bottle of basics hair conditioner which i used to buy at kwik save stores.....it cost around 40pence

hey shaneystar, dandruff is usually caused by a selenium deficiency - u can get tabs at health stores.  however, head & shoulders is ok, but it doesn't ever stop it - clever people that they are!  SELSUN is a liquid in a bottle from most chemists and is selenium based.  i promise it will get rid of the dandruff if u use exactly as it says on the bot.  use for couple of months maybe and it wont come back for 6-12 months, less if u get yr diet right.  i'm lucky if i have to use it twice in a year when i get over-stressed.

take care

oooh, and.... the best way to cleanse your face and retain all of your essential oils - use a very hot clean flannel, hold on your face to open pores, then rub liberally, especially around nose and any greasy areas.  i am 50 and have fab skin - apparently look under 40!

i also understand this is one of the ways that the top facial experts cleanse.  no chemicals!

take care
