after a reasonably priced camera with memory card so I can take close up pics of items to sell on ebay, have had a look on ebay but theres too much jargon for me, have to be able to use it for close ups of hallmarks to get rid of some jewellery

I've got a small Hitachi camera, it's fine for eBay pictures. It's got a memory card but I never take it out, I just upload the pics direct from the camera onto my computer.
you just need one with a macro function. It looks like a little flower.
It doesn't have to be expensive. I recommend Fuji as my Finepix has now been brilliant for over 10 years.
In my (extensive) experience you can't do better than Nikon, just make sure it has a 'macro' facility for the close ups.
If you want clear shots of something as small as hallmarks set aside some money for a tripod to hold the camera steady.
I bought a Fuji Finepix for the same purpose. It was £15 off ebay including the postage and packing. Had it for a couple of years now and still works fine.
