2 months ago I bought an item for 150 pounds, at Tescos, it has not been opened and I have proof of purchase, I now wish to exchange it for something worth 170 pounds more, do you think Tescos will refuse, or will I get lucky, thanks

Whilst they would be within their rights to refuse as the goods are not faulty, I firmly believe the way you approach the subject and your manner have a lot to do with any outcome. You could say that you had made a purchase for a Christmas present but when you checked with your grandson you have found he already has one. If you don't try you will never know.

Don't ask - you don't get !! Go for it.

their policy is 28 days, but you never know.
I think you might be expected to pay the £170 difference.
Their response may also depend on whether the item is still selling at that price and is still something that's in demand.
It depends on the item. Is it electrical?
I bet if it means more money in their bank account they will agree.
It will depend on what your reason is for returning it, as it can not be shown to be faulty I can't see what terms Tesco will agree to an exchange.

It is electrical and was bought early as a Christmas present for my grandson, but as it hasn't been opened and I now want something worth 170 more instead, I am worried I may have wasted my money if they refuse to exchange it, if they do they have lost another customer, will see how I get on tomorrow, thanks
Put on your biggest warm smile.
I doubt they will let you. I used to work on customer services in Argos and there is no way I'd be allowed to do it, but you never know.

Half my post has vanished.

It was along the same lines as methyl. Tesco are under no obligation to exchange the item. If they do exchange it treat it like a bonus.
If they refuse, politely ask to talk it over with the store manager or duty manager.

They will have the authority to over ride normal policy.
But don't go today. Looks like the shops are full to bursting.
you bought something you didn't want and it's the shop's fault?
No Jno, tfg didn't say that.

Two months ago the seasonal exchange policy wouldn't have been in force but I agree with those who say give it a go.
A couple of years ago I wanted to buy some presents in October and when I asked if I could still change them after xmas I was met with some strange looks from the young staff. However a senior member of staff came over and said 'Oh yes, that's fine, make a note on the receipt'. Just ask!

had a word on the phone with Tesco Direct first, they authorised it , so my local Tesco Extra checked and confirmed it was ok, then done the exchange for me, pick up in store tomorrow, happy !
Hopkirk, no, but he did say if they didn't change it he'd never shop there again.
