Salvatore Ferragamo Shoes - Sizing Help Please!

My friend is selling a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo shoes on eBay.  She is selling them on behalf of a friend who is a UK size 6.  The SF shoe has 8.5 stamped inside.  A sizing of 8.5 seems to indicate a USA sizing.  But a USA 8.5 equates to a UK size 6 and a half.  Following a question from a potential bidder my friend is now totally baffled as to the sizing!

Can anyone shed any light on Salvatore Ferragamo shoe sizing please?  They obviously do not use  European shoe sizing.  If you own a pair and could say what UK size you are and what the SF size is that would be most helpful!  Any info gratefully received!

Equating US sizes to UK sizes is a bit hit & miss, as with european ones to UK. There's a standard, but as not all shoes are millimetre perfect to size, and there's some rounding involved too, it's difficult to be that precise. Surely the ambiguity of half a size isn't that important, seeing as it equates to about 3mm?

Thank you magicdice, but yes I think it is important - to my friend who is a conscientious eBay seller.  She doesn't wish to mislead a buyer by giving the wrong information.  After all, due to the nature of an eBay transaction, the buyer can't try the shoes on before buying.  It also matters to potential bidders - one has already contacted my friend to question the validity of the sizing information given in the eBay listing.

The easiest way is to acurately measure the inside from toe to heel and then the sole length and breadth.  If it is a sandel or mule it is easy to measure the inner sole both lengthways and width.
