Ehen Did Eye-Kia Become Icky-A
22 Answers
Just seen a tv ad and the pronounciation of IKEA seems to have changed.
It seems to be now called Icky-a.
Not a good move in my opinion.

Dunno about that, Gromit. When I were a lad Audi was pronounced Ordy. As people get better educated and more worldly-wise, it makes sense to pronounce foreign brands (and other imported words) so that they have at least some semblance to the original.
It drives me mad when Jamie Oliver insists on pronouncing tzatziki as tuhzeeky.

Foreign companies often change the pronunciation of their names specifically to fit the way in which British people actually pronounce them! For example, the German name, Braun - as in the electrical goods company - means and is pronounced exactly the same as Brown is in English. However, their ads now pronounce it BraWn, 'cos that's what we say! It just seems that the Brits virtually never get it right.
Pronunciation[edit]
The name Ka has a number of possible pronunciations. For example, with a long or short "a", or with the letters pronounced separately. Ford's press office has used all three.[4] According to Auto Trader, Ford "top brass" have given the correct pronunciation as "'Ca' – as in 'Cat.'"[5]
