When friends and family have a baby I always buy that years Harrods teddy which is not personalised but has the year on.  Someone bought my daughter one when she was born and I have collected them ever since.  Every parent i have bought one for have been thrilled with them.

A silver moneybox from a jeweller, you could possibly get it engraved with name and date

If you do get something engraved with the DoB - don't include the year because in 40 years they'll have to hide whatever it is.  Just like I have to do with the sterling silver christening mug I was given when I got christened.  All those years ago..  Maybe include the day and the time  i.e.  Thursday, 22 September at 11.20am.
