My OH bought me a very generous Christmas present (a piece of georgian silver). On receipt he was not that happy with it and so showed it to me. It immediately rang alarm bells so I took it to an expert who confirmed my fears. OH has written to seller x2 and had no response. Now he has opened a dispute with ebay. Nothing has been heard. All seller's other items in his "shop" have disappeared as has seller. Ebay appear to be doing nothing.
OK, I can do the small claims route, but is there anything on ebay himself should be doing?!!

It wasnt fekkin cheap PP. He spent several hundred pounds on something he thought I would like...........Turns out the seller's number is unobtainable (I tried to call him) and his "company" was dissolved in 2013.......But I have his real name and address. So if Mr BM doesnt get his money back, I am on it. Mr BM says he feels a bit sorry for him now because he knows that I WILL follow this through to the bitter end......
'Proper shops' do sell on eBay. Even Sotheby's sold a fake, if you remember.

You will definitely get your money and the return postage back from eBay.
But you MUST use signed for delivery and get a signature, otherwise eBay will not refund you. Also you have to return it to get there within 10 days or again they can not refund you.
There is a 'return this item' option on the eBay sales page so use that !

I think we could be a bit *** on the 10 day thing. Item was received on 10 December. I got the low down on it on 14 December. Have been waiting for seller to email back since then. Dispute opened on 15 December. We are now at 20 December and I cant fetch the item back from the expert until at least tomorrow.
You have more than ten days, this is what eBay says,

A buyer must request a return no later than 30 days after the actual (or latest estimated) delivery date, or, if the seller’s return window is longer, within the return window.The seller has 8 days from the request to respond to the buyer or offer a solution. If the seller does not respond or offer a solution, the buyer can ask us to step in and help.The buyer must ship the item back to the seller within 14 days from when the buyer starts the return. VHG It would be even worse if Barmaid's husband had gone to a 'proper shop' and when he tried to take it back found the shop locked up and empty with no idea where the seller had gone. With eBay you have the eBay guarantee of a refund no matter what happens to the seller, in that respect it is NOT buying through eBay that is a risk.
