How much does it cost? Would i have to go to a specific place such as toni and guy and how long does it last?

I have very curly hair that takes ages to straighten with electric straightners and then after a couple of hours starts to kink again, im thinking about geting it cemically straightend and im just trying to find out what it costs and entails etc..

any hairdresser should be able to do it it's basically the same chemicals as a perm lotion.
Hi KT84. I had my hair straightened a few months ago. It is a fairly new system in the UK and prices start from around 200 for very short hair and up to 450 for long thick hair!. I had long thick curly hair before but as I am in Japan (alledged pioneers of permanent hair straightening) and my friend is a hairdresser I got it done for the price of the chemicals - 10 (hehehe) . The prices here usually start from around 60 (still a great bargain compared to the extortionate UK/ America prices). It takes about 3 hours to finish. First 1 chemical is applied to the hair, it is brushed straight, then left for a while, then washed and dried. It is then straightened using ceramic straighteners, then the second chemical is applied and left. Hair is then washed, dried and styled. You must not get your hair wet for 3 or 4 days after straightening, also you must not tie it back, wear a hat, anything that might cause a kink or curl.
Oh , by the way, what Loopey describes is NOT permanent straightening, it is a relaxer which is usually used on Afro hair. It made a total mess of my hair when I tried it a few years back and stayed straight for all of 3 days!
My new straight hair is fantastic and for the firat 2 months you dont even need to style it. One word of caution..your natural hair will obviously grow back, if you dont get the roots done (6 - 9 months later) you get weird curly bits appearing. Sorry for the long post but i'm very excited! good luck.

Two of my mates get theres done (or did do) somewhere in Soho (if you live near/in Ldn I could always ask them the name).  From what they tell me it's the same as a perm but straight!  But I think it lasts them a good year.  I know that they get it done then can't wash it for a day or two so they usually do it on a Friday and then stay in on the weekend.  Think it costs in the region of 200 (maybe a bit more).  However, I was reading the other day that hair straightening is a big out and not the in thing anymore so you may wanna save your cash!!

depends where you live, I live in Manchester and my daughter gets hers done for about 50 she gos to an afro carrabean hairdressers, where straightening hair is done quite a lot.
