Not actually answering the question though. Althought one doesn't get a great deal of chance to look st the goods at Argos before buying anyway, since they're stored at the back. Minimal reason to visit.

reason for this question is I have a voucher which you have to pay instore with not online and the item I want is too heavy for me to carry

I just checked on 'live chat' with Argos, chessington and yes, they can do home delivery for an in-store order.
Just ask the staff member you're dealing with.

Argos staff are always happy to fetch goods for you to inspect before placing your order (or deciding not to). Their computer system includes an option to do exactly that.

OG, it doesn't keep everyone waiting. It comes to the counter in the same way as purchased goods. You then have a chance to look at it and make your decision.

You are tying up the staff's time fetching & returning, while rejecting the item, aren't you ? They could be serving someone else.

Slightly off topic
Whenever I buy any item from Argos I always insist that they give me an item , which has not been opened up before .

I remember buying a mobile phone - when I opened the pack it became obvious that it had been opened up before
The packaging was all over the place - the sim card was actually inside the instruction manual .
What's more the item was advertised in their catalogue as not an item that can be returned , once purchased .

They should make it clear , when an item has been returned , so the buyer can decide if she/ he wants to purchase that particular item
