My mum loves this puzzle. I've seen a wooden version which you kind of make up yourself and wondered if it would be a good gift for a fan of this. I''m kind of thinking sudoko fans like the pencil and paper version - would this spoil it for them?

ive seen that too, i would imagine that there is a card of puzzles so you can set it up or it wouldnt be playable!!

I must admit being a sudoku person myself, i think i would use it a coupleof times then go back to magazine puzzles, but it would be good if you get stuck on a competition puzzle, you could set up your 'guesses' without writing all over the puzzle you are doing

IN papers I've seen an electronic machine for sudoko its pocket size, that could be a present and not too expensive you will see them in various papers, times, telegraph express, don't do this puzzle but its really catching on and all papers and magazines print then,

I'm a sudoko fan, the electronic machine sounds good, but I saw a man on a train last week who typed in the initial numbers from a metro sudoko into a laptop program and after about 10 minutes started to solve it. Difference was that it highlights each number. [eg you click a "2" and it will highlight every "2" that has been placed.] Some might fine this helpful, but I thought it looked quite off putting, so I wouldn't recomend going too high-tec.

PEGA, where did you see the electronic machine (sorry to post this in a diff question). I think it sounds like a good idea.
