Sista tried to buy some wee gifts from a little shop - when she went to purchase - they wouldn't sell them to her because she didn't have an email address.

Yes a lot of shops ask you for an email address now so they can email you the address - especially bigger retailers, but if I don't wish to give my email address I have still been able to purchase the item.

Dunelm recently asked me for my email address so they could send me my receipt. Just told them I didn't have one.

It's quite common to be asked so they can email a receipt, Halfords, Dunelm etc do it, but it's not normal to refuse to sell you something if you haven't got one.

The emailing a receipt thing is entirely optional (New Look do it). I can't believe anyone would refuse to sell something over the counter without an email - in that can't be true.

Maybe there was a misunderstanding at the shop.
Folk who don't sell if one doesn't give an e-mail address won't do well in business.

they say email for the receipt and i always say no, i'll have a physical one. They are suppose to ask if you want a email receipt especially after new GDPR laws but people act like it's essential to give the info. JJ i would have spoken to her manager. I'm sure they'd rather a sale and no email than no email, no sale and a complaint!
