Need to get a new duvet cover - what words am I looking for to ensure that it’s nice and soft (the last one I bought feels like it’s made off cardboard). Is there a certain sort of material that it needs to be? Will be buying it online, thank you :)

well I bought mine (the softest ever) in B&M. White with an embroiderie anglaise round the edges. So light.

I had an expensive one bought for me some make or other and it was very heavy.
get a jersey one - that'll be soft
Don’t know if this helps but I sell quite a lot of duvet covers to my online customers, and the softest ones I’ve had recently are 100% polyester. They barely need ironing and dry so so quickly on the line after being washed. I’ve actually got one myself and have just ordered another one.
You need a high thread count the same as with sheets.
Also more cotton than poly.
Egyptian cotton and as Pasta said high thread count.
I would buy cotton with high thread count.
I got an Egyptian cotton sheet from Wilkos - really soft and silky feel to it.
I've got a couple of cotton ones and they are a pain to iron. Have some poly/cotton too and they need no ironing at all.
Ooops ! Never thought about ironing mine. Quite honestly they don't seem to need it.

Thanks all
I’ve got two 1000 thread count duvet covers from Bed & Bath Emporium. Very soft and no ironing.
Lovely one from Amazon by Catherine Lanford
Sorry Catherine Lansfield
Percale is lovely and soft and washes well.
I have a few Catherine Lansfield as well. I'm impressed with them.
