hdtv or lcd?

Admittedly, I know nothing about buying a television, but nonetheless, I am buying one for my hubby. Anyone have any input on the pros and cons of HDTV vs. LCD?

LCD televisions can be HDTV ready (High Definition) HD will be available by Sky (approx. April 2006) but will require the purchase of a Sky HD box (price yet to be announced) and subscription to Sky's HD channels (predicted to cost between �7 and �18 extra depending on package you are currently on) If you don't have Sky or have no plans to get it then an LCD would be your best buy as you would not benefit from paying the extra money for the HD ready feature. If you are considering Sky's HD service then buy an HD ready LCD because the picture quality is outstanding. Sony, Panasonic or LG are worthy of a look. Hope this helps.

To confuse the picture somewhat (pun slightly intended) LCD is only one technology available accomodating HDTV; another being plasma... Neither plasma nor LCD are actually synonomous with HDTV technology. To comapre the two check this site:

LCD - Liquid Crystal Something these are supposed to be great but very expensive.

Plasma is also good but you have to refill the gas or something every four/five years!
