When you order groceries online, do the pickers get your groceries off the shelves or from the warehouse where the deliveries come in?

Varies between supermarkets, some are picked in store some in warehouses.
Off the shelves. Warehouses are only used for items of overstock which obviously doesn't cover every line sold in the shop.
Why?
Ocado has no shops, its all warehouse picked. I also suspect that where its possible, additional supplies are ordered in for online orders that have been made, so actually those items may never hit the shelf.
The pickers are a nuisance in Tesco with their huge trollies.
Some Tesco stores have their own warehouses where stock is picked from.
We have had a few occasions to complain to Tesco regarding the quality of the produce delivered to us,
Pomegranate,and cauliflower ,carrots and tomatoes.
Not the same quality as in store.
Tesco and Asda here pick from in store. They don’t take any notice of one way aisles and lift up barriers. More importantly as far as I am concerned is that they don’t look at the dates. If I were shopping only every 2 weeks I would not want, for instance, ham which was out of date in about 3 days.
I believe morrisons pick from a warehouse, our neighbour told is this as she thought it safer to buy from them :/ No idea it it’s true.
Our click and collect from sainsburys has been great, I really have no complaints about dates or quality of fresh fruit and veg or anything, and if we can, we will continue to do our shopping this way for the foreseeable.
I shop early on a Saturday morning in Morrisons and there are more staff with "order" trollies than customers. Sometimes they are a pain but then they might be making up parcels for people who cannot get out so that's ok. They don't check dates, they just get the first item they come to.
