M And S "Stormproof" Jacket

I bought a jacket today in MnS labelled stormproof. I got soaked coming home in the rain. The jacket which was in a light nylon type bag was wet not only on the outside but it had gone through to the inside.
After 45 mins on the phone to MnS I was asked to return it obviously for a refund.
Should I leaveit at that ? Or do you think I should tel or email further up the MnS ladder ? My local shop is full of these jackets which are not - as they say - fit for purpose.

I’d just return it and worry about yourself. Other people might feel differently about the jacket and be quite happy with it.

I have found the same problem with a couple of lightweight jackets, I think its the stitching which is at fault. Most places ask you leave reviews which is where I would leave how you feel about the jacket.

Yes Bodeker good idea but it wasn't the stitching it's a huge soaking wet patch.
Vagus - I don't worry about it I'm very cross about it. I bought a jacket labelled stormproof and it isn't. Monty Pythons dead parrot sketch comes to mind.

Just get your money back and leave an online review. No point getting too angry about it.

Sorry Rosie, I’d didn’t mean you’re worried about it.
I once bought some non slip coat hangers from Costco, very successful and went back for some more.
As I was picking them up in Costco a lady said don’t buy them, they’re useless. I told her they were the best coat hangers I’d used and this would be my second pack of them.
She hated them, I loved them.
Maybe let other people decide if the jacket is ok for them, and now you’ve got a refund, just let it go.

Those lightweight nylon jackets are not usually made from breathable fabric; the result is that you sweat like mad inside them and you think they've let water in. Before you return it, try wearing it around the house for a couple of hours and I think you'll find it's wet on the inside.
You need to buy something made from Goretex, or similar.

In my experience, "stormproof" jackets (for example, Helly Hansen-type) don't come in a little bag and cost a few hundred quid.

.....and I agree with bhg, simple nylon jackets get wet inside with moisture from your body. They're usually not labelled "stormproof" though.

Maybe the storm against which it is proofed is wind only.

I can't find anything in M and S labelled "stormproof". Did you mean "Stormwear" which is one of their trademarks? They say about Stormwear "We’ve finished off this look with Stormwear™ technology to keep you dry in showery weather." so showerproof.

Are you sure the jacket is labelled "Stormproof" as most M&S jackets and coats are coated with "Stormwear" which is a water-repellent treatment to give the garment a 'Shower Proof' protection but not heavy rain or 'storm' weather. Their denim jeans are also coated with Stormwear.

Thank you all for your replies. The jacket is labelled stormproof - I had already checked it out online. It is not made of nylon - I didn't make it clesr - it was my shopping bag - one of those fold up.tjings - that was made of a thin nylon type material.

I don't want to labour the poit but a stormproof jacket should not get soaked through to the inside on a 10min walk home in the rain when it is rolled up inside a shopping bag.

Oh dear - my.mistake - apologies all round. It is Stormwear not Stormproof.
I do think however it should not have soaked through to the inside when contained in another bag.
