Recording Tv Programmes

Hi,
Looking for the best thing to buy an elderly technophobe with a low budget that records tv programmes. He has Freeview & doesn't need more channels.

The boxes that TTT suggested are both capable of rcording to a USB device, barry. I suggested an HDD because of the volume available but CW1 says that USB sticks are OK.

Chinajan - that's just a set-top box, no mention of recording.
As barry and I have both said, the Humax does not NEED internet; if you have it it gives you access to catch-up TV and remote programming.

Barsel, seems the biggest memory stick that can be used is 32GB, plenty I'd have thought. And £100 is too much I'm afraid.
Oh, & not my parents ... lost them some years ago ... :'(

Mamalynne, refurbished would be ok but still a bit pricey. Was looking nearer £30 ideally. Will bear it in mind :)

Update: friend has a Hitachi HDR5T01 recorder which was purchased from Argos several years ago. Connects via scart and is still functioning well. A quick goggle reveals it's been discontinued, sadly. Could only find one or two used models available for sale.

32GB will store about 3 hours of tv in standard format

I suppose it depends on what the person concerned wants if for.
I have no idea what you can get onto a 32GB stick as I only use them for storing music.
It wasn't me that thought it was for your parents.
Also, I didn't realise the Humax I pointed out was one to bid for, but it might be worth you looking out for something like this, pre-owned.

barry, is that all, 3 hours of TV? Not much when you consider you can get at least 300 hrs on a Humax.

Just had another look on ebay and there are loads of pre owned recorders that are free postage or click and collect and really cheap. Just make sure it comes with a remote.This one comes with the manual as well.
