It was a refurbished bike. Dad stripped it down and rebuilt it, polished the spokes and added tyres. I painted it white with a few green highlights. No doubt it was whatever paint he had going but I loved it all the same.
It was a Raleigh with a basket on the front - can't remember the colour ?black. It was second-hand and I got it when around 8 years old - prior to that I trundled around with a joiner-made wheelbarrow - loved it.
My Dad bought me a brand new very well designed and equipped bike in blue.
It was a Raleigh RSW 16, with built in dynamo and lights. The lights only shone when you were moving.
RSW stood for Raleigh small where.
It may have modern, but to a young boy it was SERIOUSLY uncool.
blue frame with a hint of red, tan saddle - remember coming off and falling into the sandpit that was set into an inverse corner of the house. My second bike was a deep purple colour....
My first bike was made at the age of 8 from stuff I had scavenged from the local tip. I think I just had to buy a tyre and a couple of inner tubes. I sanded the frame down and strayed it metallic blue like a Raleigh Grifter.
I can't remember my first bicycle, nor can I remember learning to ride.
I do remember having a red Raleigh bike, around the age of twelve, and falling off it, smashing my two front teeth and nose.
