Not done a home delivery from Asda for a while but decided to get one today.
Got most of what i needed in the basket which came to £38.

A message popped up reminding me that if my shop was over £40 i wouldn't have to pay the £3 basket fee.

Ok i think, just added a couple of small items to take it to £41.

Well, just before its due to be delivered i get a message to say a couple of my items were now out of stock with no alternatives available.

Ok, no worries i think, until i see that i have now been charged the £3 basket fee!
This i because taking off these items that THEY dont have now reduces the shop to £39.

I think this is really unfair as its not my problem they dont have these items in stock (they should have said so on the website.)

Wont be doing anymore on line shopping with them.

My experience of hassling big firms is that they tend to apologise AND offer you a discount voucher. It's got to be worth a try, surely?
Same thing happened to me once with a tesco shop but after calling the helpline they agreed they were at fault so refunded the basket charge back to me. Just call helpline number probably on your online receipt or email receipt.
Definitely worth having a moan, they’ll refund it. Still well worth it though for £3 you have not had to travel to the store, traipse round it, pack the bags and carry it all home.

Thanks guys, yes im defo going to have a moan, its more the principle than the money, but still worth getting my £3 back.
I agree, it's not the money so much as the principle. They reduced your expenditure after you met their terms, so obviously they are responsible for meeting the charge, not you. Give them some stick and demand restitution. Good luck.
Well it is Asda price ;-) good on you have ago at them although not their fault for what they don’t have in stock, but you tried to change it, good luck.

I only use Tesco and hope some stuff are out of stock they always replace it with more expensive stuff.
In the same situation Iceland didn't add on the same fee. Also if the item has a short-date you sometimes get it for free.

They also have some foods that are exclusive to Iceland. I think two of them are Slimming World and Greggs.

The downside is that the slots are two hours.
try sainsburys their delivery fee is quite high at 7 quid but if you spend 40 the delivery is free. They don't add on the charge if items are out of stock. At least that hasn't happened to me.
Since my accident(my spine ) I started shopping online with Morrisons, and pay £8 per month for unlimited deliveries, so if say I had my weekly shop delivered on a Monday, and by Thursday realised I’d forgotten a few bits I’d just book yet another delivery slot for nxt day and wouldn’t be charged any more. I think the min charge for each individual shopping delivery is £15 but still well worth it.
Morrison's delivery pass is a £25 minimum order per delivery
as is sainsburys, spend 25 quid and you get charged 7 quid for delivery, spend 40 quid and it's free delivery.
emmie - Sainsbury's aren't free delivery for me. I pay £4 a month for midweek deliveries with a minimum £40 cost or an extra fee is charged.
Asda have this ‘rewards’ thing going, I spent 57-94 on Wednesday the rough the self check out,scanned the app on my phone, it beeped but I got nothing off so I toodled to the CS desk,Lady shrugged her shoulders ‘ you didn’t scan it’ I did , I said , another shrug, I picked up my receipt just in time to hear her mumble ‘I’m sorry about that ‘ , I turned back and politely said ‘No you’re not’ and left
Don’t take it personally. It’s just the way the computer system works. Just contact them.

I hate all this "loyalty" gubbins. Even Lidl have introduced an "app". I only shop at Aldi now - no frills.
I’ve never done on line food shopping but it seems obvious that it’s just the way the system works. It should take into account unavailable items and give the final total before offering the choice to
up the bill a bit. A blip that needs a rethink.
On the odd occasion our £40+ order at Sainsbury's has been reduced to under £40 by unavailable items we have not been charged for the delivery.
£3 to have your shopping delivered ,dirt cheap.
