I don't often venture here but I am confused. Now I know that it is inexplicably the fashion to walk around in jeans with huge holes all over them but I wondered:
Are they actually made like that or do they get old jeans from a clothing bank, make holes in them etc and then flog them as new again or what? How does it work? ....no I'm not going to get some!
Posh ones are bought with slashes or holes. The holes should be sited where they are obviously not normal wear and tear, as that would be simply wear and tear. Check out Vermeer's portrait of the artist and notice the fashionab;e slashes in his top.
In my youth my jeans were always worn until the knees were torn almost all the way round. That was authentic and manly, not a fashion statement.
They are very expensive TTT. Made to measure holes Im thinking of sorting though Mr T's jeans collection and making some money. He insists there still fine for working in!
MissTerious. Made-to-measure holes are prohibitively expensive, but there is a thriving second-hand market in authentic sixties holes. You could make a few bob putting some of Mr T's jean holes up on eBay.
I seem to recall a story from when they were fashionable before, a woman was prevented from entering Harrods because she was wearing holey jeans, jeans she had bought in Harrods the week before!
The idea is that they're old jeans that have been battered throughout the ages. The style signifies quality and longevity in clothing which is a trend taking place, helping slow fashion become popular. We now see manufacturers deliberately make their clothing look used, old and worn. Take a look at these £700 trainers: https://rb.gy/ookhum
