I have friend who's going to NY in Feb and I've asked her to buy some ciggies back for me. Would anyone know how much a packet of B&H is in NY as I'm trying to work out whether it's cheaper to buy tax free in the airport or buy them in the States?

Many thanks for your help

At a guess, tax-free in the US airport.

However, B&H as a brand may not be readily available in the US so it would be safer to get them at the airport as she leaves the UK.

Hubbie is a regular traveller, if he is travelling BA he always buys them on the way out on the plane, allegedly cheaper than duty free.
Just came back on Transatlantic flight.400 cigarettes were 32 at Gatwick,200 were 18 on BA.I've been told by a New Yorker in the past that because they are trying to discourage smoking in his city the cigarettes there are the equivalent of 7 a pack!!! Not sure how true this was as he may have got mixed up with the exchange rate.I would say get them at the airport here.Better value.
7 a packet!!!!!! I don't think so, at least when I was there in December it was more like 2.50 - 3.00 a packet! I don't think that B&H are a regular brand in the States ( I smoke Lambert & Butler which you can't buy in the shops out there, I have to smoke Pall Mall), but they do have them in the duty free.

I dont know where you people get your information from!

OK, B&H is available everywhere in NY, but its not like the B&H Gold or Special Filter you'll find in Europe, its B&H 100s (Superkings) which taste totally different. These are about 3.00 a pack. At the Duty Free on the way back you will also see these, but avoid as like I said they are different. What you will also see is a brand called Senior Service (not to be confused with the UK senior Service!). This brand comes in identical packaging to the UK B&H and is in fact just that! You wont find these on the street, cost is about $22 a carton.
