paying at checkout

What is it you most ladies that they have to wait till its time to pay before geting their money/purses out, its so annoying !!

When I've finished emptying the trolley, I take my debit card & points card out of my wallet straight away, ready to pay!

Yes I am a woman - but can't stand watching other dithering women or men, sorting out money, cards, coupons & vouchers at the checkout!

People with children are excluded from my rant, especially when the little darlings are playing up!

Yes, agree it can be a pain, especially if your in a hurry. But what are you supposed to do if you have a big shop? Take your purse and card out, balance them while trying to pack the bags, and then take longer to get the shopping off the counter and in the trolley? Or, put the card down on the ledge, and risk someone nabbing it?

It's the ones that wait until they have packed absolutely everything before handing over the cards that get on my nerves!

Generally I find the whole packing the bags at the counter such a harrasment that in my haste to get the card out early I end up taking longer than if I had just been calm and got the card out when they asked!

I work with a woman who I quite often will pop to the shop with but not only does she leave it until the last minute to get her money out but she insists of seeing if she has enough change and will pour it out on the counter totting it all up. It drives me insane and is so embarrasing when you can see everyone behind rolling their eyes up. I frequently tell her off but she just doesn't get it.

And then there are the ones (usually little old dears) who wait right till the end and then start scrabbling around in their handbags and come out with a CHEQUE BOOK.Of course it takes them forever to actually write the cheque.

Actually I've noticed rather a few nice young men wondering around Tesco recently. I might start doing my hair before I go and buy the cat food!

this makes my blood boil. Assistant at checkout asks 'would you like help packing your shopping', back comes the answer 'no'. Then their mobile phone rings or a text message comes in & they spend the next few minutes talking or even texting completely ignorant of the people waiting behind them. I work on a checkout & can tell you this happens countless times a day.

Why is it that you men cannot type properly, if some people take longer to get their purse out so what, some men take longer to clean the loo, some men take longer to go to the shop, go directly to the shop, do not go to the bookies or the pub, some men take longer to organise the ironing, washing, cleaning, work load, dentist appointments, bill paying, so if some woman takes a little longer to get her purse out to settle a shopping bill, her brain is already putting the shopping away, and then cooking the tea, before the shopping is even loaded in the car.... Get a life.. K

i agree with thelewisgang i also work on a check out and if somebody is talking on their mobile i talk to them more "it's a nice day", "do you want this packing with that item" etc we cannot talk to other cashiers and ignore the customers but they can be rude to us!

What annoys me is someone who has a couple of items in a little basket, costing about �1.20 and pays with a CHEQUE!!! Don't people at least carry a fiver in their purses or back pocket?

Yes judiewoodie thats what gets my blood boiling my other half is a typical example �2.00 worth of sweets whatever and hel pay with his card why? He has a wad of cash or change in his pocket but no still pays with plastic then it gets declined for some reason so you wait even longer im forever saying pay with money but everywhere i go you have to wait for people to pay with cards now with this chip and pin you wait for the people to dig around finding a piece of paper that they have secretly written the number down ha ha ha

sometimes if you pay by card it can be qiucker than those who "have the ricght change " but take ages to find the last coppers.

I usually have my wallet out as soon as I have my hands free, too.

However, what I find rather hard to understand, is people getting all upset about things like that.
So what if you have to wait an extra 30 seconds.
I think you waste more time being ****** off, than the other person will, taking their wallet out!

who knows probably the same reason men give the cashier a handleful of fluff with their coins.

As a woman I have boyfriends wallet at the ready everytime it comes to paying.

The cashiers should just pack the stuff instead of asking. Your natural reaction is to politely decline and then spend the next five minutes scrabbling amongst the pile of items they've thrown down at you at twice the speed it's humanly possible to pack. And when are supermarkets going to follow the example of other stores and have a single queue to the checkouts so that you don't have to watch all the other ones going twice as fast as yours? Also, keeping the big queue to one side of the store would make it easier to get round the bottom of the aisles which are always blocked by individual queues. All the big supermarkets are a nightmare to shop in, so I go to our local Co-op or Waitrose - a little more expensive, but never crowded even of Saturday afternoon.

i really couldn't care less if cashiers are irritated by me being on the phone - if i get an important call at the checkout then i will take it - why would anyone think that the customers give a toss if the cashiers want your attention? Peopl have lives to lead and the opinion of a cashier is totally irrelevent to most people - particularly when its about something so petty.

as long as you don't hold the queue up for ages, wheres the harm?

it has only happened to me a few times and only once did i continue the call because it was important and i continued packing with my other hand, and didn't hold the queue up as i already had my card on the counter -i didn't just switch off to what was happening, but the looks i got...well it was pathetic - and half the people were in the next queue along!

butt out of my business and get a life is what i say!

I agree that people should think ahead a bit and not just stand there staring around and wait until the last minute to get their purse out though

Joko, being rude, ignorant and charm less is your choice, no point in taking offence at the rest of us (who also have lives and important phone calls), if we consider you so.
Manners and consideration may be beyond your comprehension, but some people still hold them in regard, and people like you in contempt. It is you; I think needs to get a life!

steve �I�m not the one getting angry & moaning on a website that customers may get a phone call while at my checkout!
They�re mobile phones, they ring at any time, no matter what you�re doing -most people answer the phone when it rings. if people can't understand that, thats their problem. fair enough actually making a call yourself is a bit rude, but what if someone rings you?
why should i ignore an important call just to stand there in silence & watch the cashier ringing up? the call was a job offer -should i have just switched the call off? should i have said "can't talk now" i couldn't call back because number was withheld. what should i do?
perhaps people should be a little more considerate to what the call is about, instead of instant condemnation -sick child, dying grandma, house on fire etc or just very important to that person -as the job offer was to me
as i said -if you'd read the my post properly -it happened once, i didn't ignore the cashier & asked the caller to wait a second while i responded, i bagged up my items as i talked, i had my money ready & I thanked & said bye -but all that got ignored by you, as it does by the people queuing -all they were focusing on was that i was on the phone. i didn't hold up the queue, but still i am the baddie
who exactly did i hurt? it is such a petty, minor & pointless thing to get upset about
how about all the rude, ignorant & charmless cashiers who don't utter a word to you, practically throw your stuff through the checkout & look at you like you've got 2 heads when you say "thanks, bye". phone calls at checkouts are far less common occurrence than that. At least that is a genuine reason for not giving full attention, they don�t have any reason & are being paid to be polite!
i would suggest you learn to read & comprehend what you�re reading before flying off the handle & a rude, ignorant & charmless way
