What do I wear to a Black Tie Ball?

Hiya, I've got a wedding to go to at the start of July and the dress code says: Black Tie for Gentlemen, Summer Evening Dress for Ladies.

Does this mean something really really posh or just like a cocktail dress?

Also any info on where to look at / buy these dresses will be greatly appreciated.

really posh, go for a large bold sumer floral chiffon with your hair up and high high dressy strappy shoes, no bling tho, bling is out, strapless dress if poss.

I reckon Dot has it about right. Try Monsoon their summer dresses should fit the bill. If you're really not sure what everyone else is wearing use my trick, choose a plain coloured simple dress (not patterned), selected some high strappy shoes and some elegant flats, then select some classy jewellery, some ethnic jewellery, some glitz and glamour jewellery (think Butler and Wilson) park somewhere where you can see people going in and what they are wearing then put on the most appropriate jewellery and shoes. Hey Presto! you need never feel over or under dressed again.
