Is there a name for this thing? it's a wooden box that can be hung on a wall and it is divided into lots of little sections. Likely to be found in a little girl's room. The child can put different things in each section e.g. minerals/fossils, or miniature toys etc. I would like to search for one on e-bay but I don't know what search term to use, help please!

I know exactly what you mean, my daughter has two in her room, one I got from a charity shop and the other came from a car boot sale. I just did a quick search on ebay using printers type case as the search words and came up with a few, not sure how deep the little sections are though. Try also curio cabinet (although that brings up more US based items) or knick knack or ornament display cabinets
Here in the U.S. they are called shadow boxes...

In German they are called

Setzkasten

Could not find a translation for it, though!

I've always called them curio cabinets.
They're known as 'shadow boxes' in the UK too, and come under the general term of 'Display Cases'. They can have single or multiple compartments.
I`ve heard them called a Whatnot.
In my mum's day, they were called a gaybox, but I just googled it, and it wasn't too helpful!!!
On ebay you can get a thimble display case
When I was a little girl - forty years ago - they were called gay racks and I had one. xx
In the days of 'proper' printing - printers and compositors used to have trays for sorting out their tiny fonts. It's sometimes possible to buy these quite cheaply. They come in all sorts of sizes and have quite a lot of character.
