Hi, does anyone know of any shops in either Manchester, Liverpool or Chester where I can buy a sari please? I'm attending a muslim wedding in two weeks times. Thanks in advance. Paws x

Hi Chris, thanks very much,that's really helpful. I was panicking a bit, I had googled Saris but there was a 14 day delivery period to buy on line. I had asked the groom's friends about dress on the day and they said it was fine to wear what I want, but I think they were just being nice, and I want to make an effort for him. Thanks again. I take it you're aware that a sari is likely to show some of your midriff, and that it might not be acceptable to show your body in the mosque in this way?

SaxyJag - I've looked at a few on line and will be going for an outfit that includes the blouse and skirt underneath, I don't like showing off my tummy! Thanks for warning me though :-)

Excuse the ignorance,but do Muslims wear a saree,thought that was Hindu

The english lady chef in the restaurant where the groom works told me on Saturday that she is wearing her sari (so I assume it's right) and that is when I started panicking as some of the lads had told me to wear what I would usually wear so I hadn't looked into it. Thanks for your help

Rock'n'roll, I don't think it's so much a case of wearing ethnically appropriate dress, as of wearing something acceptable in a place of worship. The sari does tend to be a Hindu choice of dress, but there's nothing to stop anyone wearing one.

I think if Pawsabelle's going to wear a blouse that conceals her midriff, she'll be OK. Pawsabelle, do remember to keep something with you to cover your head with - a light scarf tucked into your bag should be OK, or even the stole part of the sari.

well theres a sari and an indian dress, the indian dress is, a dress with trousers, a sari is a small top which usually bares your midriff and a long piece of imbellished material which has to be fitted correctly (so make sure you get someone who knows how to do it to help you if you do buy a sari). muslim weddings don't always take place in a mosque, so find out where it is and see if it's alright. if it is in the mosque make sure you either wear an indian dress or a demure enough outfit with a headscarf.
