Chioldren not alolowed to be children?

Is it just me who thinks it is getting to a stage where children cannot just be kids? Nowadays you can buy underwear for 10 year olds with "sinner" and "I love make-up" on and make-up is more and their toys are heavily made-up dolls like "bratz".It is just not right.

But dolls like Sindy and Barbie are not really different to bratz and theyve been around for years. Girls like wearing mums make-up and playing dressing up. they just dont need the mini skirts and underwear thats marketed now
BTW as Children is in the title, perhaps this should be in parenting! :)

Totally agree. The other day I saw a girl who can't have been more than 10 years old at the most, walking along with her parents - she was wearing a tiny crop top and very low slung jeans with "Kiss this" written on her bottom. I couldn't believe it. She also had make up on. I think the parents should be shot for allowing that frankly. Turning your 10 year old child into a sex object has to be very very wrong.
I was going to mention that the very same parents that are hysterical about a paedophile being round every corner are often the very ones that dress their little girls like 10 year old prostitutes.
I am not prudish about little girls dressing however is comfortable for them, however I have huge issues with the sexualisation of little girls by society and I cannot believe some of the outfits that are available. At the moment our 8 year old thinks they look "cheap, tacky and gross" but clearly a lot of little girls don't as this pseudo-sexual junk is rammed down their throat as being trendy.
It's also dangerous, because I was out clubbing in town and saw one of my 12 year old son's friends whose a girl in a nightclub with her other 12 year old friend at 2.00am looking for all the world about 21 and surrounded by lads. She wasn't impressed when I called my wife who then took her home. Her parents weren't happy but she still dresses like a trollop so where is their common sense?

Ive noticed this how cheap and tarty young girls clothes are getting! i mean i am only 21 but at 8 years old i was being dressed in plain old jogging bottoms and t shirts/jumpers nothing like this! i started to question if i was just completely un stylish at that age but i wouldnt be seen dead in half the short tops and stuff now let alone then!

Nowadays? Compared to when exactly?
Children in the years between, say (lets leave BC aside) 1000AD to 1700AD were subjected to the same as any adult. They were involved in mass migration (no secure home) because of feuding and wars/battles, they were often sold into slavery/marriage, were more often than not abused by their masters (if not their parents), they had no social status (unless they had royal or aristocrat blood) and were made to serve anyone who controlled them - in any way they liked. They were often the subject of sacrificial rite and should they be unfortunately lacking in warrior like (or slave like for girls) qualities then they would be outcasts of the village and forced to survive alone, at the mercy of any foe.
In, say, 1700 society suddenly found that children had a use (Workhouse Test Act) in that they could perform menial tasks for a pittance. Up until about 1914 this was probably the case, you know children down mines, up chimneys, pick pocketing etc (you know standard Dickens stuff) and then with the event of WW1 & WW2, children often had no mother or father to care for them as they were contributing to the war effort or fighting on the front line, not to forget being shipped out to the nether-regions of the UK during the evacuation, never mind the number of orphans resulting from 2 world wars.
Kids of today? - never had it so good.
