I bought a hairdryer from Argos today and when I opened the box the packet it was in was ripped and on inspecting the hairdryer there was fingerprints and a hair on it! It's obviously been returned to the store. Should I make a complaint?

No way should you buy something brand new and have even have an inkling that its already been used.
If anything doing it now will save you doing it down the line if it packs up because its a used one!

Hairdryers are not supposed to be returned unless they are faulty - which is why they are bagged up. The bag will clearly warn you that if you open it, you can't return it unless it's faulty. Argos never should have resold it and won't be able to refuse you a refund as they are in the wrong and could have caused someone to be seriously hurt!
I'd suspect Argos gave it out in all innocence, as possibly a customer repackaged it and the box looked ok on the outside. The customer services took it back in good faith and did not know the plastic wrapping was torn on the inside. Argos are very good and I do not see any problem when you either ask for a refund or replacement.
