Pure guess here.....

"more checkout staff pronto"?
I doubt it means more staff as there is always a queue a mile long at the only check out open & staff are wandering about like 1 o'clock half struck. I avoid Wilkinsons like the plague because of this.

being an ex employee of wilkinsons, its to call a senior member of staff to check staff bags before the employee leaves the premises. I only worked there for a short while but they do not trust their employees very much & every day you can't leave the premises after your shift without having your bag/bags examined - in case you've nicked something!!!!!
Yes it means "Will someone PLEASE come and check my bags, I finished 20 minutes ago and I'd like to go home at some point" - another ex employee, GOd I hated working for them. We have spot checks where we work now, much better.
What rubbish! I hear it all the time when I'm in and once it even said "security to ailse 3 code 100!" and we were the only folks on that aisle! I was actually so infuriated by it that, that day I seriously considering complaining to the store manager! It's harrassment at best! And makes me feel the same way as you about shopping in wilkinsons. Really not amused :(
