Why do major supermarkets not stock this fabulous vegetable/fruit. It is only available in ethnic shops and mark up the prices, it is afterall a very cheap food in most parts of the world.

Plantain is available at Tesco under Exotic Vegetables 1.83 per kilo or roughly 69p each.
why not go to the popular fruit market somewhere in london or if you live in west london, the western international market near the a312. you could buy a box for about 20.00, well over 3x less than the shops
