Is this a scam on eBay?

I have just sold an item on eBay.

In my listing, I specified that I would only accept cash or cheque.

My item was "won" by a lady from Swansea.

The buyer has ignored my request for cheque/cash and tried to deposit money (in fact, 60 above what they needed to!) into my PayPal account.

The person making the PayPal payment is from the Swansea district of....................NIGERIA!

Am I being scammed?

It does sound very odd. It is well known that buyers will often pay you more than the item is worth and then ask you to forward the balance to someone else but for 60 it doesn't seem worth it.

Also Nigeria is very well know for being a country full of scammers!

My thoughts exactly!

Yes.

I wanted to buy an item from an ebay classified ad. I wanted to go and pay cash but the seller insisted on paypal and they would deliver the item. As the item concerned was a scooter this would have cost them a fair whack. I'd just report them to ebay like I did.

Thanks.

How do I do that?
I think I did it by reporting the seller, but you could do the same but just reporting the buyer.
YES YES YES. Ples=ase do not post to nigeria it happened to me on my first sold item and me and my boyfriend lost a 300 laptop cos i got a spoof mail from paypal but she said she would add 60 to send to nigeria. claim on the dispute to get ur fees back, report them to the police and ebay and relist

Thanks folks.

I've contacted eBay, asked explained the "problem" and asked to re-list my item.

Not gonna bother with the Police - it'll be too much aggro!
There is a Community Question and Answer Board on eBay where you can get lots of helpful advice, just ask them what you want to know. Good luck, touch wood I have had no probs so far with Paypal or Nigeria ... fingers crossed ...

Bummer rugeleyboy! :o(

Ebay have told me to file an "unpaid dispute" and when that is authorised I can re-list my item.
i have got a person with zero feedback bidding on a van i am selling. no problem you may think?

they have gone way overboard on the price and they are from estonia????

dont know what but something stinks???
Question Author
I'd steer WELL CLEAR of it!

When I re-list my item, I'm gonna specify "UK Bidders Only"!

Hope it works out OK for you.
twice now i have cancelled their bid??...... but i must admit, the money side of it is doing my head in!!! i am already spending it now!!!! ;)
You can block certain bidders from bidding on your item, and also block bidders with less than 0 feedback, or who are registered outside the UK if you are only offering your item to UK bidders.

Thanks guys.

I got a refund of my listing fee from eBay and have re-listed the item, specifying "UK BIDDERS ONLY"!
