when you say 'special' do you mean something he will treasure forever? Its just that 1 year olds arent always careful with toys etc.

If you want it to be something special it really needs to be something with his name engraved on it as they make the best keepsakes. Like red has said, at this age, toys arent thought of as a keepsake and will wear with time.
