Why when I list something on Ebay does it immediately say 4 people have looked at it ?!

When I list something it comes up with 1 person looking at it immediately. Maybe eBay put these numbers on, to make you think your item is popular and to make you put more things on eBay and therefore make them more money ? Or am I just cynical ??
