My friend has offered to buy me a pair of these from USA (I know a lot of you may hate them but i fancy a pair for walking anyway) but I have heard that the sizing is strange on them.

I would say that 9 times out of 10 I take a size 5 but the odd time I take a 4. Could anyone with experience of these know whether I should buy a 4 or a 5 bearing in mind that their sizing is different to other boots?

from what i have heard about the sizing i would say definently a 4. The few people i know who have them say the sizing is big. I really didn't like them at first but now i really want some!
I bought a pair in the states a couple of months ago. I am a UK size 6 and I bought a UK 6 which is a US 8. I tried them on in the shop and they fit fine though I didn't try the 5 on.

You could probably get away with a UK 4 though. Depends on how you like your boots to fit (i.e. roomy).

Thanks, I went for the smaller size and they fit very well, apparently they stretch loads so the smaller size is the one to go for!
