Body Armour needed for Doorman

Hi, can anyone advise where my friend can buy a reasonable priced bullet/knife proof body armour from as he has recently started working as a doorman.
Weve looked online and find theyre really expensive. I know its a small price to pay if its going to help save his life, but would like to find cheaper if we can.
Any help or suggestions are all welcome please.
