I am picking something up from Habitat, but would like to call into the centre for a couple of bits too. I was going to get the train to deansgate (the habitat lady said this is the nearest station). does anyone know if it's walkable to say, the arndale centre or similar? I could then get a train home from piccadilly maybe. I haven't been shopping there for years and presume its all changed!

Deansgate is definately the nearest station to Habitat, its probably a 5 to 10 minute walk.
From habitat to the arndale its about another 5 minutes.
There is also King Street which is just around the corner from Habitat which has some good shops on. Man Picc station is another 10 minutes or so from the arndale.
The arndale centre is huge now, happy shopping!
