Non-character bedding for boys!!
21 Answers
Does anyone know where I can find some decent bedding for my 7 year old boy?? I don't want characters, don't want anything too 'kiddy' and don't want designer. There are LOADS for girls to choose from, but boys get football, characters or camouflage....!
I want something a little bit more grown-up, or even just a stripy or patterned one, but I've been searching for weeks now and have found nothing. I don't mind if there's no matching pillowcase, or curtains - I just want a nice duvet cover. It seems impossible!!
Any ideas please??

The Argos website is temporarily offline, so I can't check that my two suggestions (from the printed catalogue which has just expired) are still there. However, when the site comes back online, please enter these item numbers:
119/2096 (My favourite, includes pillowcase. Curtains available as 119/2106))
119/2034 (Another possibility, includes pillowcase, curtains and laundry bag )
They're both 'bright and cheerful', without being 'kiddy'.

I really like the Tesco basics navy gingham duvet covers - they are about 5 and look crap in the packet, but they are lovely on and wash really well. My sons have them with white furniture and sheets and I got red ginham curtains - it looks really crisp and fresh and not at all babyish. They have some of the next red white and blue target (like Mod) style accessories.
Thanks everyone for the argos links - I had seen some of them already and they're on my 'possible' list!!
Plain dye ones are what I think I'll probably end up with - in La Redoute they do lovely bright colours and I would have picked the brightest and maybe clashed them. (We've done similar in our room with three different shades of blue and it looks like a photo we have on the wall of a beach in the Maldives!) It's just so annoying that I have to 'end up with' something as a second or third choice when there's twice as much stuff for girls!!
annie - hello!! - I like your idea and it's funny you should mention the 'mod' stuff from Next because the one we REALLY wanted was in the last book and when I came to order it, it was sold out (and is now not in the new one grrr!) It was the dark blue with a union jack guitar on the duvet, plain blue pillowcase. I loved that one, and all the other matching bits that you're talking about. I can find union jack ones now, but they're either a bit 'in yer face!' or they're Ben Sherman. We don't do designer labels here hahaha!!

You can get much the same effect on your own nutgone - we got the "target" style covers as well from Tesco and you could paint the design on the walls - try ebay to see if you can get the guitar duvet cover that you want - I am not keen on the union jack thing (probably becasue I am scottish - he he ) - I think that you can still get the guitar CD holder - very effective with the navy ginham - honest - I am like you, I hate the character stuff - luckily the boys don't seem to car what is on their bed as long as it isn't girly.
I'm ahead of you annie - looked on ebay already haha!! Have a look at this one and tell me what you think -

I found a website last night with a few worth a look at. i love the Warhol's Marilyn one, but Fin has absolutely no idea who she is/was, but it's still quite funky even if it is far too old for him! I like the fact that there's a 'teen' section - that's how I found the site.

That looks very cool - next do a skull range as well:

It all seems quite pricey though - especially as I would have to get 2!
How old is your son? My two are 8 and 7 and skulls are the really in thing for them just now - certainly as far as clothes are concerned.
The black and white would be a good look and you could keep the rest of the room very plain and then could change the "theme" quite easily.
Or what about this one with a bit more colour:

My two are 7 and 5, and yes, skulls are right up their street too! I'm just a bit reluctant to have it that black...I'm guessing they'll be asking for black walls etc when they hit the terrible teens anyway and I'm in no hurry for that argument!! That's why that other one was so good - bit expensive, but at least it's cream!! I don't know why but I really don't like the Argos one, and obviously the other expensive one turns out to be my favourite of the ones you found.
Curses!!
(But notice how it's my choice....Fin would have Doctor Who or Man United in a flash - I just couldn't stand it!!)
