Cheap designer, prescription glasses

I am due a new pair of specs and have seen a really nice pair in my opticians, only problem is they are really expensive. Credit crunch and all that........ I was wondering if anyone knows of a reputable company that i can buy a pair of prescription glasses, cheaply?
Any ideas please.

if you have a costco near you they do designer frames and lenses cheaper than most shops you would have to become a member though
