have stopped giving you a plastic bag when you purchase an item. You can buy a crap small one for 4p and a larger type with handles for 10p. I don't think this is about saving the environment more like making money on carrier bags !!

This worked in Bexleyheath & Bromley so is worth trying.
Why should we pay 4p for a flimsy bag which will break before we get back to the car or home. Some of these stores have got a b*****y check.

I agree, they just want the money they say it goes to the Woodland Trust , they are not solving the problem, they don't however, have a recycling system there they leave that to Tesco's, they are just happy to sell you the bag,and don't care what you do with it after. also I paid 1p for a bag in WH Smiths I asked if I could bring it back for a refund, they said no!
Also If an assistant asks if I a want a bag I reply, Do you want the money? (for the goods)
In boots I was made to feel like a criminal because I said I wanted a bag, maybe we should just walk out with the goods in our hands, that would confuse security!

I posted some time ago about my experience at TKs. It was raining, I was buying a large lampshade. There were no tills manned on either floor and customers were queing at customer services.
Then she asked if I wanted a bag. Er...yes. Does anyone carry an enormous plastic bag with them in case of sudden lampshade buys?!!!
That will be 20p. After a little chat (!) with the manager I was given the largest bag they have, for free 'just this once'.
I contacted HO and had a moan but they defended their Woodland Trust stand. If I recall, they use about half the bags they used to. And of course charge for those we do.
So it's about saving them money. A lot. And I haven't been back since......

Hi rabbitygirl and moonstar - I challenged the manager and said what if you were buying cups and saucers - where would you stuff them - in your coat pockets !!
bloody stupid.
I think this paying for bags in any shop - is more about profit than saving the environment. As I said, I now take my own shopping bags to Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury etc, but as you said rabbitygirl, who the bloody hell carries an enormous bag with them, just in case you fancy the odd lampshade. Our TK Maxx in Romford is a right dump anyway - I normally use the large store at Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex - its a lovely store and the household items are really nice. Just must remember to bring the removal van with me if I fancy a table and chairs (:o )
ha ha ha !!!
