trionam -  I know for a fact that if anyone bought me a juice maker, it would end up in the back of the cupboard along with the novelty bread maker & toasted sandwich maker. There is such a variety of fresh juices & delicious fresh bread in the shops these days, that I  think gadgets for this purpose are not only time consuming, but messy. That is only my humble opinion though.

We bought a juicer as it was much cheaper than buying the drinks at 2 a shot, and much more convenient than hunting down one of those juice bars.

We bought this one:

which is excellent for our purposes (and its on sale now!), but if you wanted to spend a bit more, you could get a smoothie maker which can also crush ice

5029 Does that one take all of the pulp out? im really fussy about juices being smooth, if it does thats a bargain price.cheers
It does, yes, the pulp is collected in a thing at the top

I bought one last year, used it for about a week. It now sits in the back of the cupboard gathering dust. It's a novelty which soon wears off. Dont think you can just lob any old fruit & veg in and out comes a delicious drink. There is so much preparation, it becomes tedious. Then there's the cleaning up........

The only kitchen gadget I can really recommend is a popcorn maker. We use it every night.

BigsDogWang - I was glad to read your reply, as I was feeling a bit guilty at giving trionam a negative answer. It is true though, it would never get used. Now a popcorn maker is a different story all together - yummy!
I don't know about juicers but I  got a Kenwood smoothie maker for Christmas and it really is a good way to enjoy fruit, you can put basically any fruit in and ice cubes yogurt or ice cream and make really nice drinks, I have one instead of breakfast in the mornings and it's just a case of swilling it out and leaving upside down to dry afterwards. ooh a warning though, don't leave the skin on apples, I made an apple "lumpy" rather than smoothie the other day!

Thanks for all the great info after careful consideration I have decided not to bother as I have a george foreman grill and food processor that I never use and as BDW says I reckon the novelty would wear off after a while.

We have a popcorn maker that is in regular use - its other name is a saucepan!

Heat a little oil - add a handful of popcorn (which should be kept in the fridge) - put on the lid - shake the pan over a good heat until the popping stops - take off lid, add a knob of butter & a sprinkle of salt - enjoy!
