Faulty goods outside warranty period- what are my rights?

My tumble drier has recently broken down.  It is 23 months old and the 12 month warranty has expired.  I contacted the shop and was told that I could not have a repair as it is out of warranty.  However I pointed out the sale of goods act where an item has to last a reasonble amount of time and be fit for the purpose.  The shop said they would 2get back to me".  Can anyone advise what a "reasonable amount of time" that an item such as this which cost �250.00 should be expected to last, and what my next step should be if they refuse to help

we had a similar problem with a washing machine , we contacted the seller (Curry's) and was told it was not their problem as it was outside of the warranty . We disputed this - can't remember the webby but there is somewhere you can check the estimated lifespan of an electrical product. We also contacted the Consumers Association and asked for their help, in the end the onus was going to be on us to prove that the product was faulty and it was going to be too costly and protracted to continue so reluctantly we let it go and bought another one (not from the same chain of shops). Your complaint should be with the shop though and not the manufacturer. We also quoted the Sale of Goods Act to them, but it didn't get us very far I'm afraid - sorry I can't be of any more help but good luck anyway
