After my 18yr olds bike was pinched from Manchester, he is looking at a better way of making it secure. Any ideas? He had a heavy weight chain before, left in a official rack, in full view and it still disappeared. GRR!
In my opinion, no bike locks/chains etc. are totally secure: if someone wants your bike badly enough, they'll take it... locks just delay them slightly. Other than putting it completely out of sight, getting bike insurance is the way to go...
Thanks snags - just had to claim on the insurance for the last one :o( He is going for a heavy chain & D lock for this one in the hope that the thief will think it will take a bit longer and move on to someone elses. Depressing isn't it ?
I agree about D locks, make sure it's a good brand though (eg. Abus or Kryptonite) cheap ones can be sawn through/drilled.
Above all, the bike must be locked to something solid and not just to itself.
