DFS television adverts obviously display prices for items. There website terms and conditions state that ''All prices are displayed inclusive of V.A.T.''

Is it likely that those display prices will rise after January 4th due to V.A.T. increases?

Yes, unless they agree to phase in VAT and, in doing, so absorb the costs into their margins. I have heard of some retailers intending to do this but I bet they move to full VAT pass through within four months, i.e. by end April.
Yes, but maybe not on day one.

Thank you both very much for your quick responses
The 2.5% increase in VAT actually raises the current retail price by 2.13%. So a £599 sofa becomes £611.76. Should make for interesting TV ads!
yeh...watch them round it up to £615..........

nahhh-I'm not a cynic.
I haven't got anything to add about VAT but there is a corner sofa I've had my eye on for the past 2 years and it has always remained at the same price even when they advertise a sale price for it!
The £599 was only a convenient price. The new price could be £599 or in some cases £649- or in fact any price that is felt appropriate in a competitive market
Folk seem to be going mad in the shops what with this VAT rise come Jan 4th - it's only 2 and a half % For Funks Sake - it's hardly worth it considering the items, such as tv's, washing machines etc wil be down in gthe January sales even more after New Year's Day!

My advice - wait and shop around for a right bargain as all the stores will be trying to undercut each other to stay alive.
Oh and for gawd's sake - dont panic Mr Mannering lol
