Shopping online can save credit card users, and consumers in general, money, it has been claimed by one retail expert.

According to a well known publication for web designers and developers, there are serious bargains to be found on the internet - news that may interest shoppers of all ages in the run up to Christmas.

A representative of the magazine explained that the advantages of shopping online for credit card customers are now undeniable and outweigh the risks of fraud that have traditionally put consumers off.

He said: "Consumer electronics is an area where shopping online has minimal risks, but huge financial rewards.”

"Being able to compare products online means you can secure some great bargains, but - if you’ve never bought from a company before - you should always undertake a little research on the seller before you make a purchase.”

It seems we need to get on the net to make huge savings. Those who do not have access to the web at home could be losing, potentially, up to £1 billion a year in savings by not making the most of retail opportunities on the web it has been reported.

Research by a well known financial advice company, published recently, revealed that consumers of all ages are waking up to the advantages of shopping online, as almost two-thirds of adults aged between 60 and 70 make purchases on the web.

However, where these silver surfers do remain cautious is when it comes to dealing with their finances online, but, if it were safe, 49 per cent would like to manage their pensions online.

So how can online internet-based retailers afford to offer consumers such good deals? Low overheads for online operators make it hard for high street retailers to compete, which is why the majority now have websites, where they often offer discounts on what you would pay 'in store'. In some areas traditional retailers are exploiting the web, with the likes of many high street traders boasting innovative online services for customers.
