I was wondering, based on some amateur knowledge of freudian observations of human behaviour what could be read into various hobbies we have.
There are some interesting observations on collecting here:

I have often looked inwards on my own hobbies and interests and theorised.
For example, I had an obsession with model plane building and flying for a while and decided that it represented freedom (or a desire to be free).
Any thoughts ?

Bird watching is primitive hunting behaviour including stalking skills and the 'tick' is the kill...
My creative hobbies are a substitute forbeing a mother..in the same way an artist 'brings life ' to a creation
Not sure where reading really sck forensic crime novels fits in though

That makes perfect sense.
Also, I have been doing a hell of a lot of photography and photographic post production. I see this very much as 'creation' I wonder if it is for similar reasons, I have no kids but I do work with them sometimes. I suppose the end results of my photography could be seen as a substitute for 'babies'.
AP and like real children some turn out better than others
On the contrary AP; making model planes harks back to a desire to be a child and be at your mother's breast again; conclusion- you are in love with your mother!
Rowanwitch; possibly the strong male characters in books remind you of your father; conclusion- you are in love with your father; either that or you want to be one of the male characters and have penis envy!
That's the main gist of the things I gathered Freud would have said anyway; weird bloke whose theories are widely discredited now I believe!
Sophie....never knew my father...I don't have penis envy as they are attached to a useless piece of flesh known as a man..

Yes, one of mine kept screaming "I want more contrast ! give me more high pass filter ! ...How come that picture of Westminster Abbey is getting more views in Photobucket than me? not fair!" ...bloody brat.
And what are we to make of him sucking on cigars until they killed him with mouth cancer?
On a more serious note; you might be interested in looking up stuff on 'schemas' which can explain both child and adult behaviour somewhat.
I was only jesting rowan; don't know why anyone would ever have penis envy or be in love with their fathers; even if they did know him!
I know Sophie...We did Freud....a whole afternoon of the tutor saying this is probably rubbish
Haha; yeah we had the same!
