your brains please?

My towelling dressing gown has an "l" shaped rip in it. Would ordinary cotton stitch it up OK or would I need something sturdier?

(It might be a silly question to you, but I do like this thing and the hole is irking me)

I'm not tenrec, but the answer is yes, IMO. If it's a cotton towelling dressing gown, you can repair it with cotton thread, However do make sure it IS cotton - some brands of what we call "a reel of cotton" are in fact synthetic.
The seams on the dressing gown are probably stitched with polyester thread. Just use what comes to hand - it won't make any difference.
My goodness, Tenrec is an expert on sewing AND goats? A very talented woman!
Sewing with goat hair...... :-)
