back of my sewing is messy!

i am making a baby gift, by sewing onto a soft towel set. My embroidery is ok from the front, but has always been very untidy on the reverse.
Is there someting you can get, like a facing type of thing. Maybe it would iron on top and so you wouldn't see the stitching?

You can buy iron-on patches (eBay or your local haberdashers) but if it's for a towel, it wouldn't take very well, and it would wash off after a while. Can you sew in the loose end from the back, just to tidy it up?
