I work with a young lady from Canvey and she assures me its an island.

The isle of Dogs is a penisular or maybe just a sticky out bit in the Thames its so called because when Henry VIII lived in Greenwich he kept his hunting dogs there.

oh well, hardly an island after all RATTER (I hope your'e well)
Bobbi, Me being in Southend Canvey Island is only a couple of miles from us. It is not at all remote, it has a huge bridge coming off the motorway its quite a busy town and not too long ago was a thriving sea-side & holiday resort with nice beaches andHoliday camps and parks. It was a fav spot for Eastenders (not tv soap) Think the Oil Refinery there now scares people off.
Alledgedly its said if you buy a house on C.I. You may never get off. I've been there several times, its a nice day out.

Thanks Jem x
Canvey isn't remote, but there's l one way on to it, and traffic queues for miles back when people are trying to get back to the island after work. The shopping centre is in a little bit of a time warp and it's quite sweet.
I meant to say "only one way on to it"
Do you mean the Canvey Way or the Canvey Road?
I know there's a road off the A13 on to Canvey and the one across the bridge from Benfleet on to Canvey , but still everybody coming on to Canvey after work gets stuck on that same roundabout, don't they?
No idea.
Yep it's definitely an Island....

And a dump!
Its quite a nice place --when the sun is shining! been there a few times

I know Canvey very well. My Nan had her caravan there and I spent many happy hours in my childhood there.
