Where is This?

I hope somebody can ID this place for me please.
On the right of the photo is a theatre poster for Yvonne Arnaud in Mrs Willie. I googled the play and found a programme for it from 1952. This photo looks slightly older - looks like a lot of building work going on - bomb damage? I've looked at photos of Shaftesbury Avenue but can't relate it to this. You can see a statue of some sort in centre distance. No clue on the double decker - destination obscured! On a jolly note - there's an advert saying Stockings Repaired in 24 Hours!

Is that Eros in the background?

Which would make that piccadilly circus if it is.

I did google Eros statue Chuck, but It didn't look right somehow. On the Eros statue there's a sort of ledge or water trough which protrudes all the way around.

I found these pics - they look very like the building facing us minus the turrets but again it could be having repairs.

I don't think it's the palace, the building in your picture looks a lot lower, narrower and also I can't find anything to suggest the palace was damaged or rebuilt in anyway.

At the top left hand corner of the theatre poster there is a date: Monday May 7.
May the 7th in 1951 was a Monday, and the next time that it was a Monday was in 1956. That might help to date the picture.

Everything suggests the Globe Theatre. Also in bottom right above the man in the cap's head the word 'globe' is on the poster.

Shame we cannot read what's on the front of the D.Decker Bus or the small print in the Ads. I have tried magnification but cannot read anything of importance.

The pedestal in the left hand background isn't Eros - which has a more slender shape.

I think we'll definitely go with 1951 on this because that Theatre programme which sir.prize has provided a link for is the same one I found when Googling. The only other legible ad is Players Please which is to the left of Stockings Repaired in 24 hours. Thank you ALL so much for helping me.

I have googled this for you. I am pretty certain that the answer you are looking for (from the info I got) is that it is the Bristol Hippodrome and the date is 7th May 1956. I googled the last name on the poster 'Diana Beaumont+ Mrs. Willie' Here is the link

Well, I don't know about the other contributors to this question, but I think that we can all allow ourselves a quiet feeling of satisfaction at a pretty good bit of detective work.
