Gunga Din was the Hindu water-carrier for a British Indian regiment. He was imortalised in the 1892 poem from Barrack-Room Ballads by Rudyard Kipling. The poem was the inspiration for the 1939 film 'Gunga Din' with Cary Grant, Victor McLaglen, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and Sam Jaffe
