Should this be buried in the "Media" section? Maybe. But, anyway ...

What are the "must own" Westerns? I'm thinking ...

Once Upon A Time In The West

Unforgiven
The Searchers
True Grit
Question Author
Well, I think Blazing Saddles is NOT racist.

It lampoons the prejuduced attitudes of many Americans at that time.

So, it was making a pointedly anti-racist statement.

Of course, to make that statement, it had to use a lot of the language used by those people whom it was mocking ... as in the "The Sherrif is a nig " scene.
Question Author
Oh yes ... True Grit.

Thanks, kawa.

Err ... the new one, or the original?
Has to be the original for me.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
The Wild Bunch
Stagecoach
The Searchers
The Shootist
Once Upon a Time in the West
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Virginia City
Little Big Man
High Plains Drifter

I'd also include Dances With Wolves
Open Range?
Shenandoah
what about How the West was Won ?
Question Author
Lots of these, I just haven't heard of.
She wore a Yellow Ribbon
Broken Arrow
A Man called Horse
Question Author
Crikey. Are these classics, or too obscure?
Agree with lots of previous suggestions esp Shane and Stagecoach from MarkRae but would have to include The Big Country if only for the music!
Mmmm. Strange to start a thread about something you know so little about JJ. Bit like me asking what the classic ancient greek poems are.
